The army issues viscose rayon stockings to women to wear with their dress uniforms. They had a back seam, 4.5" garter on top and a size stamped into the toe. The pair seen here are most likely a private purchase silk stocking, or a gifted pair. These were found in a WAC footlocker with uniforms, so most likely from the war era.
